“Lang may yer lum reek”

This Scottish saying becomes “Long may your chimney smoke” meaning ‘May you live long and keep well’.

Eilean Donan Castle – Kyle of Lochalsh, Scotland.  A 13th Century Castle in the Western Highlands.

One of my ancestral homes, near the Isle of Skye, is this beautiful historical castle.

Built on a  a small tidal island where three sea lochs meet, Loch Duich, Loch Long and Loch Alsh. In the 20th century restorations a footbridge has connected the island to the mainland.

Eilean Donan, which means simply “island of Donnán”, is named after Donnán of Eigg, a Celtic saint martyred in 617. Donnán is said to have established a church on the island, though no trace of this remains.
