Today I am grateful for AWE. Life without awe is like food without garlic, herbs and spices. I only need to look around me, and at Nature and I am filled with the gift of AWE!!
This was something I wrote 7 years ago today, ever notice how life always moves through 7-year cycles?
So my dear friend English Pearl the former teacher wrote in response…
“I think Awe is a lovely name for a cow.”
I had forgotten this lovely exchange between us, there had been so many.
If I ever have a chance to name another cow I will call her Awe, in memory of my dearest Pearl, and maybe another Granny Weatherwax just for you too!
I miss her so much, I miss her knowledge, her courage and her strength, and our secrets shared about our personal lives, and how they weaved together for deeper understanding, of our shared existences back then.
My beautiful Jewish Witch from the UK, you grounded me often with your pearls of wisdom, and your very earthy black and white common sense.
Our equal love and pleasure of animals, weaved into the threads, and the many pet hairs of our friendship. A woman like me that never had children, yet surrounded herself with her chickens, cats and dogs, they were her kin.
Lifting a wee glass to the ancestors, the shiny rocks in the sky, and the gods, on the special holy days filled with brewed wine, made with your special magical recipe, always brings you closer.
One of the most stoic of all women I’ve ever known, your strength, daily also gives me strength, as you rode the waves and endless kidney dialysis, I too ride the waves of my illness.
Always looking your way, as you did it with such style, and I am richer for having had your friendship and blessed to call you Kin dear Peggy.
I know you are still somewhere quoting Terry Pratchett lines in the ethos.
I miss you and love you, dearest Pearl. xxx
